EPASPEED 1.0 B.TUNING FOR GIANT – INSTALLATION GUIDE
Important:
• Keep the bike’s engine TURNED OFF during installation.
• Remove the battery form the e-bike according to the manufacturer manual
STEP 1 – Preparation for Installation
Before beginning the installation, ensure you have the following tools ready:
1. Precision Slotted Screwdriver
2. Hex Key H8
3. Hex Key H5
4. T20 Torx Screwdriver
5. T25 Torx Screwdriver
6. T25 Torx Screwdriver
Pre-installation Steps:
• Switch OFF the e-bike.
• Remove the battery from the e-bike following the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 2: Removing the Crank and Chainring
1. Remove Left Crank Arm
On the chain side of the e-bike, use an H8 hex key to unscrew and remove the crank locking bolt.
2. Release the Chain
o Flip up the chain guide to access the chainring.
o Carefully remove the chain from the chainring.
3. Detach the Chainring
o Using an H5 hex key, loosen and remove the chainring bolts.
o Take off the chainring from the motor.
Step 3: Motor Removal
1. Remove the Motor Cover
o Using a Torx T20 and T25 screwdriver, unscrew and remove the bolts securing the motor cover.
o Carefully remove the motor cover and set it aside.
2. Loosen the Motor Mounting Bolts
o Use a Torx T30 screwdriver to loosen the motor mounting bolts.
o Remove the bottom bolt completely.
o Leave the bolt near the rear wheel loosened but not removed.
3. Access Motor Cables
o Carefully pull out the cables and housing from the bike frame to create enough space.
4. Tilt the Motor for Access
o Gently tilt the motor downward to access the connectors.
o Support the motor with a screwdriver or another solid object to avoid strain on the cables.
STEP 4 - Disconnecting Connectors from the Engine
1. Using a precision slotted screwdriver, carefully disconnect the speed sensor connector from the motor.
2. Disconnect the connector of the cable running from the motor to the display using the same method as before.
If the connector is covered with heat shrink tubing, carefully cut and remove the tubing to access the connection without damaging the wires.
STEP 5 – Installing the EPAspeed Tuning Module
1. Connect the EPAspeed connectors to the corresponding connectors previously disconnected in Step 4.
2. Ensure that all connector locks are fully seated and secured to prevent disconnection during operation.
3. Before reassembling the motor, double-check the wiring layout against the reference diagram to confirm correct placement and routing.
STEP 6: Verifying Tuning Functionality
1. Reinsert the battery into the e-bike.
2. Power ON the e-bike system.
3. Manually rotate the rear wheel and check the e-bike display to ensure speed is being detected and displayed. The EPAspeed is set by default to 50 kmh.
4. Once the tuning function is confirmed, follow the next steps below:
Pairing the EPAspeed with the EPAspeed App
1. Install the EPAspeed App
Download and install the EPAspeed App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
2. Enable Bluetooth
Activate Bluetooth on your mobile device.
3. Launch the App
Open the EPAspeed App
4. Connect to the Device
In the list of available devices, select the address in bold characters.
o If the device does not appear verify the following:
- The e-bike is switched ON.
- Your mobile device is within 5 meters of the e-bike.
- Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
5. App Functionality
Once paired, you can use the app to:
- Control tuning functions
- Monitor ride data
- Adjust the speed limit and other settings
STEP 7 – Positioning the Tuning Module for Optimal Bluetooth Signal
1. Position the Module Correctly
Carefully route the motor connectors and wiring back into the designated space within the e-bike frame. Ensure the EPAspeed module remains slightly extended outside the frame to prevent interference from the metal structure, allowing optimal Bluetooth signal transmission
2. Place the EPAspeed module inside the plastic motor cover, ensuring the Bluetooth logo is facing outward.
This orientation is essential to guarantee maximum Bluetooth connectivity during operation.
NOTE: Ensure the module is not obstructed by metal components or enclosed within the frame.
STEP 8 – Reinstalling the Motor Cover
1. Carefully reposition the motor into its original mounting location, ensuring that no cables are pinched or damaged during the process.
2. Insert and securely tighten the motor mounting screws to fasten the engine to the frame.
3.Reinstall the plastic engine cover and fasten it using the appropriate screws.
⚠️ Take extra care to route all cables properly before tightening the motor.
